Specialist Targeted Training

national autistic society

We are a licenced Early Bird Training Centre. The EarlyBird programme helps parents of newly diagnosed children 5 and under and carers to learn more about autism, and discover new ways to support their child, following a diagnosis.

Topics include:

  • Improving communications and interactions with children under five.
  • Using structures to support their child in a range of settings and situations.
  • Developing basic play and social skills.
  • Understanding and supporting child’s behaviour.
  • An EarlyBird parent book will be provided to each family attending the sessions.
For many parents of children on the autism spectrum, life can seem very different and distant from the experiences of many other families and it can be possible to feel that there is no way that they can ask for or expect other people to understand their experiences. Our groups offer a place for parents to share experiences, to get information and advice, to make friends and shape the provision of the Ateam Hub. Our parent groups are for parents/guardians with children awaiting diagnosis as well as diagnosed children.
These sessions take many different forms such as sensory messy play, dance and movement and free play sessions. All sessions allow children to move around the room at their own will and be inspired to explore and try new things promoting sensory development, gross and fine motor skills and interaction with different adults (staff and volunteers all holding enhanced DBS and safeguarding training as well as relevant experience and qualifications) and children.
Fun sessions for children in a safe non-judgemental environment promoting development in gross and fine motor skills, sensory stimulation and communication. Parents are welcome to either stay or leave child for the session. All sessions are staffed with experienced, qualified staff holding enhanced DBS and Safeguarding training.
Interactive fun sessions for siblings of children with Autism providing the chance for some respite, raise awareness of autism through fun project based activities, help siblings develop coping strategies and better understanding of their siblings.
Our sensory play sessions aim to engaging children in sensory activities promoting stimulation of the brain, creating neutral pathways and improving sensory processing systems. Sessions are relaxed aiding improvement in social skills such as communication and co-operation. Improving co-ordination, as well as fine/gross motor skills.
